The details to know before your dinner. Read our booking terms, or if your question isn't here, send it over — I'll answer it personally.
01How much does a private chef cost in Nashville?+
Preset dinner experiences run $95–$175 per guest and include food, plates, silverware, a dedicated server for the table, course service and kitchen cleanup are all covered. After Hours is $95 per guest, The Linea Table $110, The Southern Table $125, The Butcher's Table $145 — all on a $500 local event minimum — and FABLE · Wild South is $175 per guest with a $500 local event minimum. A 20% gratuity applies to preset dinners for 8 or more guests; optional upgrades and destination travel are extra. Dinner for Two is a flat $500 all-in for exactly two guests, Nashville only.
02How far in advance should I book?+
Preset private dinners require at least seven days’ notice. Caviar & Cocktails requires at least fourteen days. Two to six weeks gives you more choice, especially around holidays and popular weekends. Check the live calendar for open dates, or contact me about a shorter lead time before making plans.
03Can you accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?+
Many dietary needs can be accommodated. Preset dinners use one menu for the table, with individual adaptations confirmed by Chef Joshua. Contact Joshua about allergies or dietary restrictions before paying, so the dishes and safe substitutions can be agreed first. Add those confirmed needs to your booking notes too.
04What do you need in my kitchen?+
Less than you'd think. A working oven, a usable cooktop, fridge space, and a sink. If the kitchen is missing something specific to the menu, I bring it — induction burners, sous-vide, plating tools, serving pieces.
05Do you clean up after the meal?+
Yes. Plates done, kitchen wiped, trash out, my equipment packed. You wake up to a clean kitchen, not a project.
06Is anything extra on top of the price?+
Food, plates, silverware, table service and cleanup are included, and private dinners have a $500 event minimum before travel and gratuity. Three things can be added: optional upgrades you choose, a 20% gratuity for parties of 8 or more, and destination pricing in the Smoky Mountains, North Georgia and Kentucky bourbon country — $350 travel. Nashville and Birmingham are both local with no travel fee. Dinner for Two is a flat $500.
07How do I book, and what's due?+
Preset dinners book directly online: choose your date, select your dishes and review the total. Pay 25% for dates 46+ days out, 50% for dates 15–45 days out, or the full amount for dates within 14 days. Any remaining balance is charged automatically to the same card 7 days before the event. Deposits are non-refundable; cancellations must be made at least 8 days before the event. Rescheduling is available, subject to availability.
08Can I reschedule or cancel?+
Deposits are non-refundable. Cancellations must be made at least 8 days before the event, before any remaining balance is charged 7 days before the event. Rescheduling is available, subject to availability. Contact Joshua directly to cancel or request a new date. The full policy is available on our Booking Terms page and before payment.
09How many guests can you serve?+
Private dining runs up to 30 guests. Fable Boutique Catering is a separate Nashville and Middle Tennessee offer for 15–50 guests: one styled, attended food table rather than banquet or drop-off service.
10What is the Dinner for Two package?+
Anniversary and date-night dinners for exactly two guests, $500 total, all-inclusive, Nashville only. The four-course Southern Table menu is included. No per-person pricing, no travel fee, no gratuity added — $500 is the price.
11What is Caviar & Cocktails?+
A three-hour caviar, seafood and cocktail gathering for 8–16 adults in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. It is $325 per guest with service included, plus 9.75% tax. Eight guests total $2,853.50 including tax. There is no additional automatic dinner gratuity. You supply the alcohol; we bring the food, mixers, garnishes and service. Please allow at least fourteen days’ notice.
12What if I want a fully custom menu?+
A $100 reservation holds your date and starts menu development with me. From there we build the menu together against a $75-per-guest minimum food and service budget, and the balance is set once the menu is final.
13Is gratuity added?+
A 20% gratuity is added automatically to preset dinners for groups of 8 or more, and it goes to the team working your event. Dinner for Two has no gratuity added — the $500 is all-in. Caviar & Cocktails includes service in its price and adds tax. Boutique Catering uses its separately published 20% service charge.
14Do you travel outside Nashville?+
Birmingham, Mountain Brook and Homewood, Alabama are a second home market for private dining — same menus, same prices, no travel fee. Destination dinners in the Smoky Mountains, North Georgia and Kentucky bourbon country carry a $350 flat travel fee. Boutique Catering is Nashville and Middle Tennessee only.
15What's your service radius?+
Nashville metro and most of Middle Tennessee — Belle Meade, Green Hills, Brentwood, Franklin, East Nashville, Germantown, The Nations, Nolensville, Murfreesboro. Beyond that, see the destination dining regions.
16What's the minimum guest count?+
Private dining is for 2–30 guests. All preset private dinners have a $500 event minimum before travel and gratuity. Destination dinners add one $350 travel fee. The minimum applies when the dinner subtotal is lower.
17Will you cook in my Airbnb or short-term rental?+
Yes. Every experience is built for in-home cooking, including short-term rentals across Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, East Nashville, and the surrounding area. Just confirm the kitchen has a working oven and cooktop.
18Do you do weddings and corporate events?+
Private dining covers rehearsal, welcome and corporate dinners up to 30 guests. Fable Boutique Catering suits intimate Nashville gatherings of 15–50 guests, but Fable is not a wedding caterer or large-event caterer.
19Does everyone at the table eat the same menu?+
Yes — the host chooses one menu for the whole table. If a guest needs an adapted plate, contact Joshua before payment to confirm the dietary requirements and available substitutions, then record the agreed needs in the booking notes.
20Are kids welcome?+
Absolutely. Children count toward the guest total, and I'll plate a simpler version of the same courses for them at no extra charge. Tell me their ages in the booking notes.
21Do you provide alcohol or wine pairings?+
I don't sell or supply alcohol. Tell me what you're pouring and I'll suggest pairings you can buy yourself. Caviar & Cocktails and optional cocktail service use alcohol supplied by the host; mixers, garnishes and service are included as described on their menu pages.
22What do I need to provide as the host?+
Your table, seating, and the kitchen — a working oven, a cooktop, fridge space and a sink. I bring the food, my equipment, plates, silverware, glass-free service pieces where needed, and the team. Nothing to shop for, nothing to set up.
23Can we keep the leftovers?+
Anything that comes off my pans and doesn't make it to the table is yours — I'll box it and leave it in your fridge before I go. I don't send home extra portions that were never cooked.
24Can we swap a course or substitute a dish?+
Within reason, yes. Preset experiences are built as a sequence, so swaps stay inside the same menu family; if you want the menu built from scratch, that's the custom path — a $100 reservation holds the date and we design it together against a $75-per-guest floor.
25How long does the evening run?+
Plan on about three hours from first course to last plate for a preset dinner. I arrive roughly two hours ahead to set up and stay about 45 minutes after to clean down the kitchen.
26What if I haven't booked the house or rental yet?+
You can still book. At the address step, tick the box that says the rental isn't booked yet and the reservation is taken with the address marked TBD. Send me the address as soon as you have it. Pricing follows the address where I actually cook — a Nashville or Birmingham address has no travel fee, and a destination address carries the flat destination travel fee — so if the confirmed address changes the pricing, we settle that before the dinner.
